Letting go, Lightening the Load

When I'm home from school, I like to rummage about in my stuff. Painfully sentimental, I have a lot of stuff stashed here and there. Some of it is priceless to me. Old books. Pictures of dear folk. Letters. Vintage linens & baby things. Some of it is useful. Sewing paraphernalia. Scrapbooking supplies. Wrapping Paper, &tc. The rest, well, it needs to go in the rubbish bin, and that is something I always dread doing. Relegating a personal possession to the garbage seems so final. What if I need it some day? Today, I drove myself to ruthlessness, pitching some things that were neither priceless or useful, merely weights on my psyche: unflattering pictures, old letters. It feels good to let go.

"But one thing I do: forgetting what lies behind and straining forward to what lies ahead, I press on toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus" (Philippians 3:13b-14).

lol, that's what samuel and i have been doing the past few days, too. i've but over three huge trash-sacks full of shredded paper in the dumpster. it is hard to toss old letters and scribbles and such... but the truth of the matter is that i never really re-read anything and it just takes up space. i'm not the most sentimental person in the world, but i still keep too much stuff. here's to an uncluttered 2008! ps. thanks so much for the anniversary ecard! ;)

Don't worry, I'm plenty sentimental for both of us! I haven't brought myself to tossing out any of your notes--they're too pretty!
